Despite HMG's non-recognition of Taiwan, bi-lateral relations are strong with a wide range of unofficial links, particularly in commercial, education and cultural fields. The British Trade & Cultural Office in Taipei (BTCO) was established in 1993 to represent British interests in Taiwan. The principal role of the office is to promote our trade and investment interests and the majority of staff is devoted to this task.
