Applying for a UK passport in Taiwan

Something you need to know
- Our office in Taiwan accepts passport applications, which are then processed at the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong.
- Please be informed that applications received after 12:00 noon will be treated as having been received on the following working day and will be charged accordingly.
What to submit
Please note that all documents must be originals and will be copied and returned.
To apply for a UK passport in Taiwan you must submit:
British Citizen Passport Renewal (ADULT)
- A completed C1 Form
- The current passport
- Two photographs (taken in the last month) on a WHITE background
- The appropriate fee
If you became a British Citizen by virtue of Registration or Naturalisation you will need to present your certificate.
British Citizen Passport Renewal (CHILD)
- A completed C2 Form
- The current passport and parent(s)’ British passport(s)
- Two countersigned photographs (taken in the last month) on a WHITE background
- The appropriate fee
If your child was born after you registered you will need to present a copy of your certificate.
First Time Passport for a CHILD
- A completed C2 Form
- Two countersigned photographs (taken in the last month) on a WHITE background
- The appropriate fee
- Both Chinese and English versions of the child’s birth certificate
- A full (unabridged) British birth certificate or proof of claim to British nationality of the British parent(s)
- Both parents’ passports
- The parents' marriage certificate and, if appropriate, evidence of the termination of any previous marriage of either parent

In addition to the documents listed above, first time applicants should also produce documentation required for birth registration in Taiwan.
Important Notice on Countersignatory
- The form and photograph should be countersigned and endorsed by a professional person, currently residing in Taiwan, e.g. teacher, lawyer, bank official, established civil servant, police officer, doctor or other person of similar standing, who is a British National, British National (Overseas), or Commonwealth Citizen and has known you for at least two years. If this is not possible, then the application can be countersigned by a professional of any other nationality. A note should be included supporting the countersignatures if they do not meet the countersignatory criteria.
- For a child’s application, the countersignatory should be someone who has known the parent or guardian for at least two years.
- Please note that relatives are not permitted to countersign.
British National (Overseas) Passport Renewal
- A completed application form. Form A for over the age of 16. Form B for under the age of 16.
- The current BN(O) passport
- Your Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
- Two photographs (taken in the last month) on a WHITE background
- The appropriate fee
- Parent’s Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card for applicants under the age of 18

Postal applications should only be made for non-urgent passport renewals. First time and lost passport applications must be made in person or by legal guardians. Please note that when applying by post, applicants must enclose original documents.
Passport applications and collections are accepted between 9 and 12 am, Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Outside these hours please arrange an appointment.
