Our office in Taiwan

The British Trade and Cultural Office (BTCO) was established in 1993 with the aim of promoting Britain’s commercial and cultural interests in Taiwan, and look forward to making the UK relationship with Taiwan even stronger.

Taiwan is considered to be a strategic location for UK companies’ Asia Pacific operations and as a market in its own right. In 2008 our exports to Taiwan were £836m, a decrease of 12.6% over 2007. Imports from Taiwan were £2.48 bn for 2008, an increase of 0.3% over 2007.

There are approximately 300 UK companies located in Taiwan, across a variety of sectors. These include financial and business services, ICT, telecommunications, infrastructure, environmental technology, creative industries and marine.

Likewise, Taiwanese companies are realising the benefits of setting up in the UK, where they can source the world’s best talent, products, services and technology.   Currently over 180 Taiwanese companies have a presence in the UK and are using it as their springboard for global growth. These include companies such as Evergreen Group, D-Link, HTC, Acer, Asus, Taiwan Bank and Mega Bank.

A key objective for the British Trade & Cultural Office (BTCO) is to increase business relationships between the UK and Taiwan, working in partnership with UK Trade & Investment.  The BTCO is actively involved with promoting commercial opportunities through supporting and organising targeted events and visits.
