The British Trade & Cultural Office(BTCO) announced today the following Remembrance Events in Taiwan in November:
Remembrance Day Service in Taipei on Sunday 8th November
The service will be held at 0930 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 509 Zhong Zheng Road, Shilin, Taipei 111. All are welcome.
POW Remembrance Weekend 14th/15th November
These events, organised by the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society, with the support of the Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and British Trade & Cultural Office in Taipei, honour all veterans and former Allied prisoners of war who suffered in the Japanese prisoner of war camps during World War II. This year, six former POWs will be returning for the following:
A POW Banquet at 1830 on Saturday, 14th November at the Imperial Hotel, 600 Linsen North Road in Taipei. It is held in honour of the POWs and provides an opportunity for those in the community to meet and talk with them and to listen to their stories. This year we have six former POWs returning for these events. Doors open at 1800. The cost is NT$1000 per person and reservations for the banquet are required, as seating is limited. No-shows will be billed.
A Remembrance Day Service on the site of the former Kinkaseki POW Camp in the POW Memorial Park at Jinguashi (near Jiufen) on Sunday, 15th November. Chartered buses from Taipei will take participants and guests to the Remembrance Service at Jinguashi. The cost is NT$400 per head and reservations are required for the bus which will depart from the east side of the Grand Hyatt Hotel - at 09:00 sharp. After the ceremonies, everyone is invited to join together for a time of fellowship over a picnic lunch. The buses will return to the city around 1500. NB It is highly recommended that the bus transportation provided be used, as there is no parking for private vehicles at the site. Special vehicle permits are required for access to the park and we cannot be responsible for anyone getting lost on the way or being late for the service, if going by private vehicle.
Reservations for the banquet and the bus can be made by calling Clare Lear at British Assistance & Services Section, BTCO, Tel: 02 8758-2056 or email to: Clare.Lear@fco.gov.uk.
The deadline for reservations for both events is 5 pm on Wednesday November 11th.
