Strengths of UK’s creative industries and London 2012 presents great opportunities for Taiwan (06/10/2009)
Sir Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) will visit Taiwan on 7 to 8 Oct to present London 2012 opportunities and support British design talents showcasing UK creative industries.
UK Trade & Investment is running ‘Love & Money: 50 years of Creative Britain’ multi-screen exhibition at 2009 Taiwan Design Expo and will hold UK design talks in Taipei and Taichung. Sir Andrew Cahn will give a talk titled ‘London 2012 Olympics: Springboard for the UK Economy’ workshop on 7 Oct at 6th Floor in Eslite Book Store Xin-Yi Branch.
Sir Andrew Cahn said, "Love & Money video exhibition is an excellent example of how UK creative industries can export overseas and generate business. London is a global centre for creative industries. The Pixar Exhibition in Taipei Fine Arts Museum and the Game On exhibition in Kaohsiung were both curated by Barbican Centre in Lonodn. I hope that the design events we have organised will lead to further collaboration."
Sir Andrew Cahn will also be presenting the business opportunities for Taiwanese companies from the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The 2012 Olympics aims to transform the heart of east London into a memorable attraction that will welcome the world. The Games will directly award £6 billion worth of contracts through 75,000 business opportunities, and over £40 million has been earmarked for cultural activities across the UK. Involvement in 2012 would give a company the opportunity to showcase their product to a worldwide audience of millions.
Lloyds TSB Business has forecast that the 2012 Games will generate an estimated £21 billion for the UK economy, more than double the £10 billion estimate made when the Games were first won.
The London 2012 Olympic Games will take place from 27 July to 12 August, hosting 26 sports with over 10,500 athletes competing.
The Paralympics Games will take place from 29 August to 9 September, with 4,200 athletes competing in 21 sports.
