Mount Gabriel Ltd.

Mount Gabriel Ltd., one of Europe’s leading contract manufacturers and specialists in the supply of wooden boxes, packaging and promotional products, commissioned a £500 OMIS in Taiwan in Nov 08. The objectives were to identify and locate potential venture partners to execute a trade and consumer reach Whisky and Spirits Festival and broad range of industry contacts to gain a first hand market intelligence picture. From the list provided Mount Gabriel has secured a JV partner to organise the event in Taiwan on 1st and 2nd of May in 2009, less than 6 months since they initially contacted UKTI team in Taiwan.

Steve Notman, Director of Mount Gabriel said, “Our objectives were met in full and our expectations of the service were more than surpassed. From the profiled list of contacts forwarded we were able to understand the mechanics and structure of the market and indeed were able to make informed decisions and responses based on the understandings from the contacts provided....Without the aid of this service, based on our lack of knowledge of the market and the key players in it ... we would not be in the positive position we are now in...Our success to date is solely 100% based on the service provided by OMIS.”

British Food Fair

In August 2009, the UKTI team in Taipei worked with City' Super, a high end supermarket in Taiwan,  for a British Food Fair featuring over 100 new food items imported from the UK at the chain supermarket. City' Super brought in a variety of sweet and savoury products specially sourced from the UK to bring local customers the taste of traditional British culinary culture. It was the first British food fair being held in recent years in the local retail scene.

Six OMISs were commissioned to enhance marketing impact of the event by running sampling activities, working with influential food blogger and providing other publicity supports. As a result, the team generated local media coverage worth more than £9,000 advertising value equivalent.

Post-event briefings were provided to the UK companies who took part in the promotion which have been useful in terms of formulating business strategies for Taiwan on a long-term basis.

The event was well received by the supermarket’s customers and deemed as one of the most successful promotional events at City' Super, attracting over 500,000 footfall in two weeks.  This resounding success has paved way for a bigger scale food fair next year.
