Romax Technology

As a result of the 3rd UK Taiwan Renewable Round Table Meeting in Taiwan in 2008, an UK company, Romax Technology Ltd, has won contracts from Taiwanese companies, TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd., and Formosa Heavy Industries Corp. to design the gearbox for wind turbine. They also signed a MOU with Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) on provision of training in the Wind Turbine Design tool and consultancy services relating to Drive Train System development.

Peter Poon, Managing Director of Romax said, "This is our first success in Taiwan, and I would like to express my thanks to the support from the UKTI team. The renewable energy forum in Taipei last November organised by UKTI and ITRI of Taiwan was a good opportunity for us to promote our capability to key players in the wind energy business."

SeaEnergy

In 27 Oct 2009, SeaEnergy PLC and Taiwan Generations Corporation (TGC) signed a Heads of Terms agreement with TGC to undertake the joint development of TGC’s pipeline of offshore windfarm projects. This is the first offshore windfarm project owned by private energy operators in Taiwan.

Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly plan, construct and operate offshore windfarms in Taiwan, commencing with TGC's NT$40 billion (US$1.23 billion) Changhua offshore windfarm project that will have an installed capacity of up to 600 megawatts.

Joel Staadecker, CEO of SeaEnergy Renewables Limited said “this partnership is a perfect way for Sea Energy to take our unique expertise first time overseas and explore new opportunities at relatively low risk. He also expressed his gratitude for the British Trade and Cultural Office for introducing TGC to Sea Energy one year ago at the renewable energy seminar held in Taipei.

Bilfinger and Burger

Bilfinger and Burger (B&B) took part in the British Trade & Cultural Office’s 2008 Land Remediation Seminar during their first visit to Taiwan. More than 200 people attended the seminar, and B&B met with several potential business partners. On their return to London, B&B commissioned a £1,500 OMIS to find local partners and to provide support for their first bid for land remediation work in Taiwan. They didn’t win the project but, armed with this experience, are now working with local partners identified in the OMIS report to prepare for two further tenders. They feel very positive about the Taiwan market and are confident of winning business in 2009.

ERM

Environment Consultancy ERM Plc participated in the British Trade & Cultural Office’s first seminar on carbon footprint management, and introduced UK companies’ expertise in helping major manufacturers obtain certification for voluntary emission reduction. As a direct result of the seminar, the Minister for Environmental Protection invited them to give a presentation to the Ministry about their experience in carbon-footprint management. They are now involved in advanced discussions on contracts with several major Taiwanese manufacturers.
